Business Overview
The Tax Tech track within Financial Systems owns, manages and develops the various pillars of the tax platform, used by BKNG systems to collect taxes accurately and in a compliant way from our supply partners. The team is directly responsible for delivering critical Must-Do priorities and looking for a driven engineer to help realise the long term architectural and business vision.
Role Description
As a Full Stack Engineer II , you are responsible for the development, performance, and scaling of internal systems. You will work independently and will also be responsible for making technical decisions within a team.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Design and implement end-to-end product features.
- Evaluating customer needs and coming up with ideal solutions for it, assessing different languages (Java, Javascript, etc), architecture and risks.
- Rapidly developing next-generation scalable, flexible, and high-performance systems, with end-to-end ownership by monitoring and adjusting SLIs and SLOs.
- Continuously learn and apply modern development methodologies and tools
- Deploy and maintain software in production
- Proactively propose improvement ideas to reduce technical debt and increase business impact of your team
- Solving issues with internal systems, prioritizing based on customer and business impact
- Acting as an intermediary for problems, with both technical and non-technical audiences
What You’ll Be Bringing
- 5+ years of software development experience working with at least one server-side programming language (Java, Scala etc), Javascript, HTML, CSS and one of the modern frameworks (React, Vue, Angular etc.) using modern tools and methodologies.
- Experience with AWS/Azure/GCP cloud native solution.
- Experience in designing and delivering complex frontend applications.
- Demonstrable experience with relational and non-relational databases.
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes is a plus.
- Experience with Typescript and GraphQL is a plus.
- Deep understanding of cross-browser and cross-platform development (feature compatibility, responsive design, graceful degradation, progressive enhancement).
- Experience in delivering and maintaining software in production with basic understanding of scalability, security and reliability aspects.
- You own your systems end-to-end and are comfortable performing incident management.
- Operational Excellence: Demonstrated ability to keep critical systems up and running, with a strong grasp of reliability, troubleshooting, and incident management.
