FREELANCE LEARNING CONTENT REVIEWER: BRITISH ENGLISH FOR GERMAN SPEAKERS - ALL GENDERS
ABOUT BABBEL LABS
Babbel Labs is building the future of language learning. We're an AI-first, independent company within the Babbel group, based in Berlin. Our teams bring AI, R&D and product together to ship experiences that set a new standard for how people learn.
ABOUT THE ROLE AT BABBEL LABS
We're a small, fast-moving team rethinking how people learn languages with AI. We're looking for a detail-oriented freelance Learning Content Reviewer to review British English content for German-speaking learners, making sure it's accurate, natural and explained in a way that works for them. This is a freelance role, paid hourly.
Speed, precision and quality are how we work. You'll review content as it's created, including content produced with the help of AI, and help us catch what machines miss. Your feedback will directly shape what learners experience and how our curriculum grows.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Review learning content across formats. Check text, audio and images for accuracy, clarity, naturalness and consistency, and flag anything that could confuse or mislead a learner.
- Review and shape the curriculum. Assess how lessons build on each other, spot gaps or overlaps, and suggest improvements to structure, progression and learning goals.
- Ensure content reflects British English. Check spelling, vocabulary, idioms, pronunciation and cultural references for consistency with UK conventions, and catch American English that slips in.
- Review content through a German learner's eyes. Check that German instructions, translations and explanations are accurate, and anticipate typical mistakes German speakers make in English.
- Quality-check AI-generated content. Evaluate content created with AI tools, identify recurring errors and help us improve how that content is produced.
- Give clear, actionable feedback. Document issues and suggestions in a way that content creators, linguists and engineers can act on quickly.
- Help raise the quality bar. Contribute to review guidelines, style standards and checklists that keep content consistent at scale.
- Work across disciplines with product managers, linguists, learning content strategists and engineers.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- Relevant experience. 2+ years of experience in at least one of the following: proofreading, translation, language teaching, or learning content quality testing.
- Language skills. Native or near-native British English and fluent German. Excellent oral and written communication skills in both.
- A sharp eye for detail. You notice the small things, from a mistranslated word to an audio clip that doesn't match its transcript.
- A learner-first mindset. You understand what makes content clear and motivating for someone learning a new language.
- Comfort with AI tools. You're curious about how AI is changing content creation and happy to use it as part of your workflow.
- Reliability and independence. You manage your own time, meet deadlines and communicate proactively when something needs attention.
- Comfort with ambiguity. You're happy working in a fast-changing environment where processes evolve as we learn.
WHAT YOU'LL GET
- A consumer product used around the world. Your reviews directly improve a live product that real learners use every day, globally.
- Meaningful impact. Your feedback shapes the content and curriculum, not just the final polish.
- Competitive hourly rate. Pay that reflects your experience and the quality of your work.
