Sr Manager, EU Next Day Speed , EU Speed and Service Programs
Amazon · Luxembourg, Luxembourg
**THIS ROLE CAN BE BASED IN LONDON, MUNICH, PARIS, MILAN, MADRID, BERLIN, BARCELONA & LUX***
Have you ever ordered a product on Amazon and wondered how it got delivered to you so fast, and what systems and processes power the whole operation? If so, this role is for you.
The EU Speed team is part of EU Supply Chain, Transportation Planning & Operational Excellence (STEP) organisation, which optimises the EU end-to-end transportation and transfer network.
Our mission: offer the right speed, for the right customer, on the right selection, in the most cost-efficient manner.
• Operations is at the heart of the Amazon customer experience. Each action we undertake is on behalf of our customers, as surpassing their expectations is our passion.
• We improve customer experience through continuously optimising the complex movements of goods from vendors to customers throughout Europe.
• We tackle Amazon's most complex problems, processes, and decisions. We work with fulfilment centers, transportation capacity, topology, connectivity, DEA, finance, and retail teams across EU to improve our logistic infrastructure and algorithms.
• We are obsessed with rethinking our advanced end-to-end supply chain to make our deliveries even faster. Our overall mission: we want Amazon to be the place where customers come to get goods delivered next-day.
Key job responsibilities
We are seeking a Sr. Manager to own the end-to-end strategy, execution, and performance of 1D+ Speed across EU5 and EXP8 markets. This is high-visibility leadership role accountable for speed outcomes that impact day to day our customers.
Our overall mission is simple: we want Amazon to be the place where customers come to get goods delivered next-day. This role is the senior leader who makes that happen. You will own end-to-end Next Day speed to improve customer experience across EU markets. The problem space is broad, the opportunity is not fully defined, and the strategy is yours to set. This is a people manager role: you will lead a team of Program managers and Analyst, while personally driving the multi-year vision and roadmap for Next Day speed improvement. You will distill diverse inputs from large customer segments and cross-functional stakeholders to design and drive the right long-term solution. You will own the Speed metric for 1D and 2D Speed, setting targets, identifying structural headwinds and tailwinds, and driving the cross-functional mechanisms required to close gaps at country and EU level. You deliver with independence and high judgment, distinguishing between one-way and two-way doors to move fast where appropriate and exercise caution where the stakes demand it.
A day in the life
This role requires you to:
• Set the vision and own the strategy for Next Day Speed: The problem, opportunity, and strategy are often not predefined: you identify them, frame them, and drive the organization toward the right outcome. You own Next Day Glance View Speed and are accountable for translating strategic ambiguity into a clear, executable plan.
• Lead across significantly complex, persistent programs: Own a portfolio of speed initiatives spanning multiple orgs and countries. Handle significantly complex problems, decisions, and escalations where the methodology, requirements, customer needs, and technical feasibility may not be defined. Deconstruct risks into appropriate simplicity and make trade-offs between opportunity, resources, and sustainability.
• Drive organisational influence at scale: Influence team priorities and business strategy across STEP Operations, Transportation, Network Design, Finance, Stores, and country-level operations. Partner at Director/VP level to align capacity, investment, and operational priorities with speed targets. You effectively force-multiply by working across your org to shape priorities and goals through data-driven contributions.
• Build and lead mechanisms for operational excellence: create scalable mechanisms and best practices, and educate others on them. Actively remove bottlenecks and set the standard for process improvement.
• Communicate at the highest level: Author high-quality narratives that distill complex operational data into clear, actionable insights. You are trusted to present decisions to leaders two levels above you. You ask the hard questions, decompose significantly complex problems into straightforward solutions, build consensus, and align teams toward coherent strategies across locales, roles, and functions.
• Build and develop future leaders (people manager): Hire, mentor, and grow a team of program managers and analysts. Develop future leaders and participate actively in the recruitment process. Lead by example, encouraging positive and constructive feedback in doc reviews, peer reviews, and cross-team evaluations.
• Innovate and simplify: Identify structural opportunities to improve speed at lower cost. Challenge existing assumptions, propose new approaches, and build scalable mechanisms that reduce manual effort and increase speed predictability. You acquire new knowledge and skills as needed to solve problems that do not have established playbooks.
About the team
This role demands two mindsets that set exceptional leaders apart:
• Grit: You have a clear goal and the relentless ability to move toward it despite roadblocks and challenges. When a speed target is at risk, you do not wait for conditions to improve: you find the path, rally the teams, and deliver the outcome.
• Lateral thinking: You challenge the status quo, think out of the box, and adopt a diverse and often bold approach to problem solving.
You are the visible, vocal owner of >1D speed.
Your work is strategic, and you are the primary owner. You do not wait for problems to be handed to you: you identify them, frame the right question, and drive the organization to the answer.
